Plants Need a Haircut Too

As the growing season progresses plants like Verbena (shown) and petunias begin to look leggy. Cut the stems of the plant back by approximately one third. This encourages the plant to fill in bare spaces with new growth and produces new blooms. Frequent watering during the hot summer causes nutrients to leach out so be sure to fertilize regularly.
