EVERYBODY’S A FLOWER

Florists often use Statice Flower in their flower arrangements. It is called a “filler flower” because it is seldom used as the focal point in an arrangement. This flower is very easy to grow from seed in a home garden. However, it is an excellent companion plant in the garden instead of the main specimen. The scent of the Statice Flower is up to interpretation. Some people find them offensive while others say it has a pleasant, earthy scent. Statice Flowers are most popular in dried form. Their main purpose is to be in an arrangement for someone who is grieving or has suffered loss.

Thinking back over the years of my life I have met all kinds of people. No two have ever been completely alike. Even identical twins have their own personality and gifts. You & I are very much like a flower garden. For some it seems natural to stand on a stage in front of hundreds even thousands of people. Others have absolutely no desire to be up front but thrive in a behind the scenes environment. Then there are those who have wondered “Where do I fit? What do I have to offer? “I have asked my husband many times, “Am I strange?” He lovingly but sternly tells me “No, you are you and that’s who I love. Now quit asking me that!”

Today I read Ephesians 2:10 in a new light:
For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live]. (Amplified version)

We all have our place in this earth. Some are called to be leaders. But most of us are called to be helpers and senders. We are the companion plants in God’s great garden. Not everyone will like us. But others will find us extremely needful. We stand alongside, in a hole that would remain empty if we did not step forward and fill it. Because you see, like the Statice Flower, we all have a purpose.

Some of the more fragrant and eye appealing flowers will wither and fade. But we will stand strong. Though the growing season is long past we will still have beauty when the winter of our lives arrives. And we are all beautiful. We should never ask “Does God have a purpose for me?” But rather we should pray, “Lord I know by your Word I am here at this time, in this place for a reason. And I thank you that you are revealing that purpose to me, amen.”
