How much are you really saving?

I purchased a bag of Caladium bulbs at a big box store. They were priced 5 bulbs for $2.98 (a little under 60 cents each.) Then, I went to a “real” garden center. You know; the people that sell plants for a living. They usually have college degrees in the field of horticulture in addition to years of experience in their field of study. I also purchased Caladiums bulbs there, they were in bulk and priced at 69 cents each.

The bulbs on the left are the big box “bargain” bulbs. Those on the right are the quality, slightly higher priced garden center bulbs. My point is obvious. Nine cents is no savings what so ever. Success in the garden starts with plant, or bulb selection. The time spent making one more stop in your busy schedule will be worth it. You will have more time to enjoy your garden and less time babying weak, inferior plants.

Happy planting everyone!
