Proven

I made myself a promise in regard to my flower garden this year. I have vowed to plant at least one, and possibly two different plants that I have ever grown before. I tend to plant what is familiar to me. I know the growth habits, water, fertilizer, and light requirements of my old standbys. That familiar rut is comfortable. It is less risky; it is “safe.”

The other day I was at a meeting with some local gardeners. We were listening to a gentleman from one of our state universities talking about some “Oklahoma Proven” annuals and perennials. The plants that receive this title are those that have flourished in the test garden of the university. The people that work at that garden are experts in their field. They know more than I would dare dream of understanding in a lifetime of gardening. This year I am going to take the experts at their word and I will try a couple of their recommendations.

“The sky and the earth (the universe, the world) will pass away, but My words will not pass away.”  (Luke 21:33)

Our heavenly Father has given us His word as a guide for our lives. Whatever we need is within reach. It is as close as the Bible sitting on our coffee table or the app on our phone. His word tells us that He knew us before we were born. He sees where we are at today. He also knows where we will be tomorrow, next week, next year and the years to come, (Psalm 139:13-16) He is our creator. He loves us more than we will ever fully comprehend. It is truly amazing to consider that He loves us despite our weaknesses and failures. He loves us so much that He sent Jesus, His son, to die for us. All He asks in return is that we allow Him to be the Lord of our life. When we spend time in His word we discover His will for us. When we know what His will is for our lives we can go to Him like a child to their parent.

“So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when He adopted you as His own children. Now we call Him, “Abba, Father.”  (Romans 8:15)

Any good parent instructs nurtures and provides the needs of their child. They make sure that all their physical needs are met. God, the maker of all things is perfect. He doesn’t make mistakes; He knew what He was getting when He made you.  He has a plan especially for you. He is an expert on the subject of you! He wants you to have a long, happy, fruitful life. He has already provided you with everything you will need. Trust Him; let Him plant you where you can flourish. It may be a little out of your comfort zone but He will be right there with you. In the end He will label you, “proven” because what He plants can never fail.
